Connections Between Frozen and Other Disney Movies

  • by

Disney animated adventures, without a doubt, captivate viewers of all ages with their meaningful storylines. Many eagle-eyed viewers may even spot some correlations or signs of their favorite animated movies taking place in the same universe. Fans have spent weeks and even months attempting to establish those links within every Disney movie, sometimes to the point of overly focusing on a random Easter egg. Frozen (2013) is an American Disney animated film about Anna and her estranged sister, Elsa, whose ice abilities have accidentally imprisoned their country in an endless winter. Now, let me briefly explain the main plot of Frozen and its relation to other Disney characters.

Frozen illustrates Elsa as someone who has the magical power to control and convert snow into ice. One day, she accidentally injures her sister, Anna, with her magic. A group of trolls cure Anna and make her forget Elsa’s magical abilities. Since then, the castle gates have remained closed. Elsa, too, avoids physical contact with Anna. In their teens, their parents allegedly drowned while sailing out to sea one day and never returned. Because of this tragedy, Arendelle requires a new queen figure which is later appointed to Elsa. However, Elsa’s coronation as the new queen of Arendelle ends in a major accident. On the day of the coronation, Anna intends to ask Elsa’s blessing about the man she loved at that time. Elsa, on the other hand, is unable to accept it. However, Anna’s attitude enrages Elsa and accidentally makes Elsa unwillingly release her power in front of everyone. The people at the gathering then refer to her as a monster. Elsa flees to North Mountain, where she builds an ice palace. Arendelle, on the other hand, is locked in a perpetual winter. The tale that follows is about Anna’s attempt to find Elsa.

The theory that links Frozen and other Disney movies could be seen from the appearance of several cameos at Elsa’s party shows. When Elsa throws a coronation celebration, Anna goes out to welcome the guests, two of whom are instantly identifiable. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, the unmistakable stars of the movie Tangled appear in this scene. Fans believe Rapunzel and Elsa’s mothers are sisters since they look identical and may have wedded to the kings of two distinct kingdoms. They have several daughters, each with a different set of abilities. For example, one daughter was born with the power of healing owing to the magic flower (Rapunzel), while the other was born with mastery over ice and snow magic (Elsa). So, in this scene, Rapunzel seems to be visiting her cousin, Elsa, in Arendelle.

Besides Rapunzel from Tangled, another Disney princess also appears as the guest of Elsa’s party. At the end of Tangled, Rapunzel marries Flynn Rider, which implies a royal wedding will take place. Because other royals are expected to attend, a scene in Frozen portrays Cinderella’s King and Duke traveling to observe the royal wedding. When the castle doors in Frozen eventually opened, the King and Duke are followed by a group of women who had more than a passing similarity to Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty and Princess Tiana from Princess and the Frog. With all those elements, Elsa’s parents may be attending the previous wedding of another Disney princess. So, it’s like a tradition when every Disney princess has to visit a wedding or other Disney princess celebration.

Other than that, Frozen is also linked to the tale of Ariel, the mermaid in The Little Mermaid, Ariel is researching a shipwreck where Elsa’s parents died. The shipwreck in The Little Mermaid takes place in Denmark, which is located halfway between Norway (the setting for Frozen) and Germany (the location of Tangled). As a result, fans have claimed that the debris may be Elsa’s parents’ ship.

Another theory claims that Elsa’s parents are still alive and stranded on an island. According to Chris Buck, co-director of Frozen and Tarzan, the King and Queen of Arendelle did not perish in the storm. Their journey may have strayed from its intended path to avoid the storm. They may end up stranded on an island, constructed a tree house, had a baby boy, and eaten by a leopard. This story relates to Tarzan, a child who was born in a tree home and raised by gorillas. Because we never know the origins of Tarzan’s parents, it might be possible that Tarzan’s parents are the King and Queen of Arendelle. Thus, Tarzan is not only Elsa and Anna’s long-lost brother, but also the true prince of Arendelle.

Finally, Frozen has made connections with several Disney characters. According to the theory, Tarzan is Elsa and Anna’s long-lost brother. The ship of Elsa and Anna’s parents drifts on until it comes to rest at the bottom of the ocean, where Ariel eventually discovers it. Several princesses attend the coronation in retaliation for Elsa’s parents’ attendance at their wedding. It might be Aurora’s marriage to Prince Phillip or Tiana’s engagement with Prince Naveen as they arrive for Elsa’s coronation. The same thing happened with Rapunzel and Flynn Rider’s marriage. They make a point of attending the coronation to remember the sacrifice. However, all of these stories are made up by Disney enthusiasts. So, what are your thoughts? Is Frozen in a relationship with another Disney character? Or is it only a coincidence?
